I Bought Me A New Toy

So I finally made it to Silver Snail. Originally, I had planned to go down in the afternoon, but decided I'd watch a movie with Mia first. We watched "Sideways" and it was surprisingly funny and entertaining. I strongly suggest that you all see it. However, if you are engaged, do not watch this movie with your fiance at your side. You have been warned! Actually, go ahead and take your significant other, then drop me a comment and tell us all about it.

Sideways - A Fox Searchlight Pictures Film

Silver Snail closes at 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Our movie started at 3:40 p.m. and was unexpectadly long. The movie finally ended at exactly 5:55 p.m. and we ran over the popular comics store. There was still a good number of people inside and the front entrance was still unlocked. I browsed around for a while trying to decide if there was anything else I might have wanted. They had a couple new Superman resin statues but nothing that really cought my eye. The Optimus Prime statues looked amazing, but they were much larger than what I was looking for, and far too expensive. Roughly one month after having received my gift certificate, I was finally able to get what I had wanted. To the left is a picture I took of the detailed statue.

** To those who took the time to post comments, I apologize but there were some unexpected complications with the post.

In response to some of the comments, I completely agree with you Tom. It's definitely a shame that Paul Giamatti wasn't nominated for his performance in "Sideways". Of all the nominees for best lead actor, I've only yet seen Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in "The Aviator". Although his role in movie seemed to be a bit more demanding, I feel Paul Giamatti's performance in "Sideways" is much more deserving of a nomination.

And to Fwannie, if you happen to watch the movie, you'll see exaclty what I mean. I'm sure not all engaged men think the same way though. Still, I would imagine that the movie might make a few women think twice before agreeing with the idea of their fiance's having one last week of freedom.

It's Friday Night

I'm at home doing absolutely nothing. I got home from work at about 9:30 p.m. and fell asleep. I woke up, made some pizza, and now I'm here. I think A.J. and some of the guys went out to Guvernment. Shane and Carie-Anne went out to Venue. I'm fine with being at home. I've had a long work week.

Ford has just recently announced a voluntary recall of almost 800,000 popular pickups and sport utility vehicles. What's the issue? The cruise control switch could actually short circuit and cause a fire under the hood, all while sitting in the comfort your driveway or even worse, garage. Needless to say, we've been very busy at work. They offered us overtime but I chose to keep my weekend work-free. I treat every weekend now, like a mini-vacation.

I'm hoping to go down to Silver Snail tomorrow... for real this time. Well that's all for now. Until next time.

Another Day

Nothing too exciting to tell today. Our company was nice enough to provide us with lunch, from Pickle Barrel. It wasn't much more than bread, a few cold cuts, salad, and pasta. Still, a nice gesture. The day seemed to pass by a bit slower than usual today. I think a work week is always more difficult to get through when you know you're not being paid at the end of it. Pay weeks are great! Can't wait till next week though, I've got Tuesday off and I'm working on Saturday instead. Saturdays are great becuase I actually get to start bright and early at 9:00 a.m. and still have the rest of my evening free. I must go now. I am hungry.

Let There Be Heat!

Last night my parents managed to get a hold of a friend of a friend who's been working with home climate control systems for over ten years. His name is Carlton. Carlton was immediately and genuinely concerned for us, considering the extremely cold temperature. He said he'd be here as soon as he could manage. While we were waiting for him, the fuses in our home started to blow, one by one, due to the amount of heaters we had on. First, me and my brother's room went out, then my parents room and the washroom, then the kitchen. We had no stove, no heaters, and no extra fuses. Caltron arrived at our house at about 11:00 p.m. After my father explained the situation we were now in, Carlton promised he wouldn't leave until he had our heater back up and running. After about two hours and a few trips back to his home for extra supplies, heroically, Carlton had managed to bring our heating system back to life. We couldn't thank him enough. He was tired and had quite a long way to drive home. He asked only for $200 and a glass of water, under the circumstances, a more than reasonable request. We all slept like newborn babies.

I woke up this morning in a sweat. It's hot like fire in here. I ate breakfast, brushed my teeth, and turned on my computer. I tried to log into MSN Messenger and check my Hotmail account. They don't seem to be working very well. The following are screenshots of what I saw.

Not sure what I'll do the rest of the day. I was thinking I might go to GAP and return a sweater I've been meaning to return for some time now. I was also thinking about making a trip down to Silver Snail on Queen Street and using up the gift certificate that Mia was kinda enough to give me for Christmas. I think I've decided that I'll get a few Final Fantasy VII resin statues. After so many years, that game still manages to be the most interesting and entertaining game I've ever played. I can't wait to get the statues.

If I don't leave now, I may never leave the house today.

It's Like Winter Inside!

On what may turn out to be the coldest day of the year, after twenty five years, our heater decided it had finally had enough. We immediately called the Enbridge service hotline at about 11:00 a.m. this morning. They advised us that it would cost $129 just to have one of their technicians come out and make a diagnosis. The earliest appointment available was between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. We booked the appointment. My father decided to go grocery shopping while we waited, and instinctively brought back two boxes of fire logs in the hopes that they would help keep the house at a bearable temperature. While inspecting the furnace, my father notices that some wires seem to have been melted. As is in his nature, he assumed the role of the technician and decided he would attempt the repair on his own. To avoid spending an unnecessary $129, he also called Enbridge to cancel the appointment we had so urgently booked just a few hours earlier. More than an hour later, the repair is complete, and we still don't have heat. At that point, I began to worry a bit. After about half an hour, I convinced my father to call Enbridge, and tell them that the heater had stopped working again. The representative on the phone, informed us that the next available appointment would be tomorow between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. We booked the appointment.

Right now I'm wearing slippers, two pars of socks, two pairs of sweat pants, two sweaters, a pair of gloves, and a hat. I'm finding it quite difficult to type with these gloves on. My father just stepped out to Canadian tire to buy some small personal heaters that'll hopefully get us through the night comfortably. Wish us luck!

Haha! I'm a poet, and I didn't know it. Can you find it?

Pay Day!!!

Cold outside as usual. My brother and I would have been on the same bus this morning, but he had to turn back for a pair of shoes he forgot at home. I got to work early, got paid, worked until 8:00 p.m. and came home. I ate pizza. A few minutes later I ate rice and peas. Why am I still hungry?

My Cool New Shoes

When I woke up this morning and looked out the window, I couldn't beleive the amount of snow that I'd have to walk through to get to the bus stop. All I could think of as I was getting ready for work, was how soaking wet my shoes and jeans would be after walking through the snow. I decided to try something and, at the time I thought it was a great idea. Before I left my house, I stepped into two LCBO shopping bags, tied them up at my ankles, and off I went. My plan was to get to the bus stop, take the bags off, and throw them out. Unfortunately for me, as I got to the bus stop, my bus was just arriving. I had two options; I could either wait for the next bus and risk being late for work, or get on the bus with my cool new LCBO waterproof shoes. I got on the bus and wore those shoes proudly. I also managed to get to work on time.

My Day Off Work...Almost

I almost had a day off work today, with pay. As I was making my way to the building where I work to start my 11:30 a.m. shift, I noticed one of the memebers of my team walking in the opposite direction. She told me we were all being sent home due to a power outage in the area. I must have smiled all the way up to the eleventh floor. Just after I had signed in and was told to go home, our program manager announced that there would be no more people being sent home. Everyone currently in the centre, unfortunately, had to stay. I had experienced the highest and lowest point of my day, within a matter of minutes. We were advised that the company needed some staff to stay, in the event that power would return to the area. I, along with seven other members of my team, were devastated. While the rest of our team had been given the day off, with pay, we for some unexplained reason, were forced to stay.

In order to demonstarte the company's appreciation for those who were left behind, although an extra paid day off of our choice would have been nice, we were given two slices of pizza each. The power returned at about 1:00 p.m. but our systems weren't up and running for another hour. Given the situation, we were all given a bit of extra time, and officially, work started at 2:30 p.m. The day went by rather quickly and I arrived at home unusually early. I think I've found a new, more efficient transit route home from work. I'll try it again tomorrow and see how it works out. I may have just gotten lucky today.

A Weekend Well Spent

This past weekend was a bit different than what I've lately become accustomed to. Instead of spending it at home relaxing or going to watch a movie, the weekend started off with a trip down to Pearl Lounge. The occasion, Micheal Michael Motorcylce's birthday. With the passing of my grandmother a little over a month ago now, I hadn't really been in the mood to celebrate anything. However, after a long week and an even longer day at work, a drink was just what I needed. After an hour-and-a-half-long TTC ride from work, I arrived home at about 9:30pm, as usual. I received a call from Mike just a few minutes after stepping into my house, and was given roughly fifteen minutes to get ready. I managed to do it in twenty.

***

It was indescribably cold outside as we were forced to wait in line, while also waiting for the last member of our party to arrive, plus one. It was the first time all of the guys had gotten together in a while. Not on the starting line up for the night; DeZilva and Angco. They missed a good time. Eventually, we escaped from the cold and made it inside. Somehow, the line of people waiting to check their coats, in anticipation of a drunken somewhat memorable night, was even longer than the guest list line we had been in, just a few minutes earlier. Most of us were able to get a head start on the drinking, as A.J took it upon himself to check all of our coats in. Obviously, our main purpose for being there is to get Mike as ridiculously drunk as possible, while enjoying a few drinks ourselves. The night goes as planned.

I ran into some people I hadn't seen in a while. It's always nice when you see someone you haven't seen in such a long time, and somehow still feel as if you had last seen them only yesterday. Some friendships never seem to grow old.

We stayed until the club began to close up, grabbed out jackets and left. As per tradition, we stopped off at the popular Jerk Spot to satisfy our hunger. Somewhere between there, and travelling back to the underground P2 parking lot, we managed to lose Mike. Luckily, he didn't wander too far off, and was found sitting on a park bench, staring into the sky. After having taken pictures all night, it's a shame that we missed that one particular photo opportunity. Joy was kind enough to be the driver for the night. We arrived back to Mike's house at about 4:30 a.m. Shane and Francis took about fifteen minutes to tuck him in to bed, took some final, very flattering photos of the birthday boy, and the night was over. I eventually fell asleep at about 5:00 a.m.

(I'm tired now. I'll finish this story later.)

My parents woke me up at about 8:00 a.m. It was the only Saturday that everyone had available to burry my grandmother's ashes. Sadly, she passed away a little over a month ago, and will always be missed.

The cold wind from the night before seemed to have carried over into the morning. We were all shivering as we tried to make sense of what the priest said. He was a middle aged chinese man whose accent was about as thick as the layers of clothing we each had on. I was puzzled for a moment when he asked God to accept her into his kingdom as we gathered to burry her "ass". It slipped my mind for second that we had all gathered that day, to bury my grandmother's "ashes". We each left a rose, and for last time, said our final goodbyes.

We spent the rest of the day cleaning up her now vacant apartment. It was like a museum of our family history sorting through old photo albums, letters, toys and books. I actually found a blank Kodak Beta video cassette, still in original packaging , with an Honest Ed's price tag on it. Honest Ed's Camera Department. All sales final. $6.99 each. By about 5:00 p.m., after seven straight hours of sorting through my grandmother's belonging and getting rid of a mountain of junk, we went to Swiss Chalet, had a great meal, and went home. Later that night, I made plans with Shane and some other people to rent Napoleon Dynamite. That never happened. Most of us, including myself, were still recovering from the night before. I fell asleep at about 11:00 p.m. and didn't wake up till about 2:00 p.m. the next day.

I woke up, went to Ikea to look for some shelves, stopped off at Food Basics to buy myself lunch for the week, and finally came home at about 8:00 p.m. I've found that by bringing my lunch from home, I'm actually able to save about eighty dollars each month. The downside is that I'm not nearly as satisfied with the amount of food I'm consuming, but I am eating much healthier now. That night, Shane, Mike, Francis and I went to AMC to watch "In Good Company". It was actually better than I had expected it to be. I stuffed my face with a huge bag of popcorn and an oversized Coke. It was satisfying. After the movie, we stood outside for a while, and laughed about Friday night's events. Poor Mike didn't remember half of what we were talking about. We assured him that he had a good time.

And that was my weekend, and my first real online blog. If you've actually taken the time to read all this, I'm glad I was able to keep you interested. Thanks for reading. I'll post again soon.

My First Blog!

Hello there. My name is Jason and this is my first blog. I guess I'll be posting my deepest and most intimate thoughts on here. Well, maybe not, but I will be posting something. Stay tuned!
