My Day Off Work...Almost
I almost had a day off work today, with pay. As I was making my way to the building where I work to start my 11:30 a.m. shift, I noticed one of the memebers of my team walking in the opposite direction. She told me we were all being sent home due to a power outage in the area. I must have smiled all the way up to the eleventh floor. Just after I had signed in and was told to go home, our program manager announced that there would be no more people being sent home. Everyone currently in the centre, unfortunately, had to stay. I had experienced the highest and lowest point of my day, within a matter of minutes. We were advised that the company needed some staff to stay, in the event that power would return to the area. I, along with seven other members of my team, were devastated. While the rest of our team had been given the day off, with pay, we for some unexplained reason, were forced to stay.
In order to demonstarte the company's appreciation for those who were left behind, although an extra paid day off of our choice would have been nice, we were given two slices of pizza each. The power returned at about 1:00 p.m. but our systems weren't up and running for another hour. Given the situation, we were all given a bit of extra time, and officially, work started at 2:30 p.m. The day went by rather quickly and I arrived at home unusually early. I think I've found a new, more efficient transit route home from work. I'll try it again tomorrow and see how it works out. I may have just gotten lucky today.
